Amber Hickey will be a Researcher in Residence from March 16-23, 2018 at Signal Culture in Owego, NY. During the residency Amber will work on an article that discusses the work of new media artists Postcommodity, Skawennati, and Jackson 2bears. The article focuses on the implications of these artists' work on discourses of temporality and Indigenous futurity – with particular consideration of their resistance to “settler time” (Rifkin 2017) and the hegemonic temporality of extractive and capitalist lifeways. In addition, Amber will use the resources and tools at Signal to learn more about the technical processes the artists employ (virtual reality, SecondLife, and VJ software).
