Gracia Brown: Curator Assistant

Mary Porter Sesnon Gallery
Slay poster

As a Clare Wedding Scholarship recipient, I worked as a Curator Assistant at the Mary Porter Sesnon Gallery. My focus was on the Winter exhibit, “Spoken/Unspoken: Forms of Resistance”. The show featured numerous works by women of color artists and activists, including a selection of amazing prints from Self-Help Graphics in Los Angeles. My responsibilities included artist research, creating labels, assisting the design of the exhibit, installation, and attending guest speaker talks and Sesnon hosted events. I learned a lot about all the intricate details and hard work that goes into curating a show. Working as the Curator Assistant was a wonderful experience and opportunity that I recommend for anyone interested in galleries, curating, and art handling.
