"Photography and the Ethics of Sensory Documentation: The Kansas Wind and Power Project"

Lisa Cartwright is Professor of Visual Arts with additional appointments in the Department of Communication, the graduate Science Studies Program, and the program in Critical Gender Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She is the author of the books Screening the Body: Tracing Medicine’s Visual Culture, Moral Spectatorship and, with Marita Sturken, Practices of Looking: An Introduction to Visual Culture. Her recent essays take up feminist visual science studies, the landscape photography of Catherine Opie, media archaeology of camera technology, and the visual culture of viral epidemics in the 20th century. Cartwright directs the Catalyst Lab, an initiative that supports collaborations across art, science and technology with emphases in feminist and critical theory and in experimental documentary practice. The lab is home to the online journal Catalyst: Feminism, Theory and Technoscienceand supports collaboration with the FemTechNet, a international network of feminist scholars, artists, and teachers of technology, science, feminism, and digital media.
