Explores how human subjects come to be visually defined and marked by "race" discourse. Covers diverse theoretical literatures on the topic, primarily in visual studies, but also in cultural studies, post-colonial studies, and psychoanalysis. (Also offered as Feminist Studies 245. Students cannot receive credit for both courses.) Enrollment restricted to graduate students.
