Nineteenth-Century Europe in Prints

This course focuses on the public lives of printed pictures in Europe between 1789 and 1914. In lectures and in written assignments, the class will analyze how artists created works in multiple, which were then circulated by publishers and dealers and consumed by viewers across Europe. In-class discussions will compare nineteenth-century print cultures to our current practices of engaging socially with digital images to see what each illuminates about the other. General Education (GE) code: IM
